QUIT 4 Life: 2009 is the Year for You to Stop Smoking Jan 08, 2009

The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation (MPCF) hosts a free Quit 4 Life smoking cessation support group in efforts to motivate and assist addicts in kicking the habit. The group meets every Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Patient Resource Center. Pre-registration is not required, and new participants are welcome at every meeting. “When a person totals up the cost of cigarettes, cigars, etc., it is a big hit to a budget, as well as health costs in the present and future,” said Barbara Coleman, TMPCF oncology social worker. “Quit 4 Life is appropriate for anyone thinking about giving up tobacco, and we would love to have some new members who are acting on those New Year’s resolutions.” Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer-related deaths in both men and women in the United States, and a staggering 90 percent of these deaths are preventable. “A cigarette is a euphemism for a cleverly crafted product that delivers just the right amount of nicotine to keep its user addicted for life before killing the person,” said former World Health Organization director-general Gro Harlem Brundtland. For more information about Quit 4 Life, please visit www.minniepearl.org or contact TMPCF at (615) 467-1936 or toll-free at (877) 467-1936. The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit public charity committed to funding programs that provide the greatest benefit to cancer patients and their families. By supporting new programs in cancer research, education, and patient and family services, we honor the memory of Sarah Cannon, a cancer patient herself, who created the beloved character “Minnie Pearl.”
