Journaling for Your Health: The Basics

Journaling is a wonderful tool and form of expression, particulary for a patient newly diagnosed with cancer.  A journal is a safe and private place to fully explore your emotions and to describe how you are feeling.  Sometimes, you may not feel like fully discussing with your loved ones and friends, just exactly what you are experiencing and feeling.  A journal is for you and you only.  Studies have shown that cancer patients who keep a journal throughout his or her course of treatment often benefit from strengthened immunity and decreased problematic symptoms such as depression.  In the above video, Laura Leach, LMSW, and an oncology social worker here at Minnie Pearl, dicusses journaling, the benefits, and how to begin.
